Boa Boot Sizing
The Boa Hoof Boot

The Boa offers a "dial up" fastening system for no fuss application. The perfect boot for trail riding and pleasure riding. They come inclusive with gaiters.
The Boa Horse Boot™ is one of the first horse boot to use materials and technology previously found only in modern athletic shoes and snowboard boots. Modern materials and manufacturing techniques, combined with the unique Boa Lacing System™, make the Boa Horse Boot™ .
The outside tread pattern of the Boa Horse Boot™ has been designed for traction, yet allows the hoof and lower leg to move after contact with the ground surface. There is a fine line between traction and aggressive traction. Boots or shoes with aggressive traction don’t allow movement of the hoof and lower leg, causing unneeded lower limb stress and injuries. The Boa Horse Boot™ has been designed to provide traction similar to the natural barefoot hoof. Boa Horse Boots™ provide traction without injuries.
The Boa Lacing System™ makes Boa Horse Boots™ easy to put on and take off, and micro adjustments inherent to the closure allow the boot to fit snugly to almost any hoof. Boa Horse Boots™ fit snugly around the hoof and above the hairline without joint interference during motion.
Although Boa Horse Boots™ have many veterinary and medical uses, they should not be used to hold medications or invasive substances. Many of the medicines used to treat hoof ailments will react adversely with Boa Horse Boot™ leathers and the urethane sole.

BOA BOOT SIZING: It is important to match the width and length of the hoof to the Boa Horse Boot™ size.
The front hooves of most horses tend to be more round and wider than the hind hooves. The best fit may require a smaller size for the hinds.
How to get the correct size boot for your horse:
1. Measure the width of the hoof across the bottom at the widest point.
2. Measure the length of the hoof from the toe to the buttress line of the heel. The buttress line is the farthest weight bearing point of the heel.
3. Compare your measurement with the proper size chart below. If you are taking your measurements in inches, use the imperial size chart. If you are taking your measurements in millimeters, use the metric size chart.
4. Ideally, the width and length measurement will fit into the same Boa Horse Boot™ size. If the width and length measurements indicate different Boa Horse Boot™ sizes, select the larger Boa Horse Boot™ size.

Fitting the Boa Boot
Prepare the hoof: Thoroughly clean hoof with hoof pick.
Putting on the Boot:
-
- Remove the front shield cap by turning counter-clockwise. Pull the dial on the Boa Lacing System™ away from the boot until you feel it release. Spread the boot open with your hands
Important: Always turn the gear dial CLOCKWISE....forcing the dial in a counter-clockwise direction will destroy the gear mechanism. - Slip the Boa Horse Boot over the hoof, making sure the toe of the hoof is as far forward as possible and the boot is started on straight. Use the pull tab to help pull the boot on all the way. Place horses hoof on the ground to set heel.

- Remove the front shield cap by turning counter-clockwise. Pull the dial on the Boa Lacing System™ away from the boot until you feel it release. Spread the boot open with your hands
- Tighten the Boa Lacing System™:
- Push the dial down until you feel it lock and begin totighten by turning clockwise. The boot will begin to tighten and close around the hoof and hairline. Continue to tighten until a finger can be snugly slipped between the collar of the Boa Horse Boot™ and the hairline. Don’t overtighten.
Important: Always turn the gear dial CLOCKWISE....forcing the dial in a counter-clockwise direction will destroy the gear mechanism.
- Place the shield cap on the boot and fasten it by twisting 90 degrees. You will feel the cap go through a series of clicks then stop. Do not force the cap past the last clicks. Do not use the Boa Horse Boot™ without the shield cap. Replacement caps are available for purchase.

- A properly applied Boa Horse Boot™ will be snug, but you should be able to fit a finger between the collar of the boot and the hairline.

Important: After you fit the Boa Horse Boot™ and the horse has had a chance to move around, tighten the Boa dial an additional ¼ turn. Make sure the boots are still fitted squarely and securely on the hoof. Make sure the Boa Horse Boot™ has not twisted to the side. If the boot has twisted to the side, it is either too large or needs to be tightened. Discontinue use if the boot continues to twist. Boots that twist can cause damage to the hoof and soft tissue areas. - Fitting the Boa Gaiter:
- Before Applying the boot, fold the Boa Gaiter as shown below.
- Insert the Boa Gaiter into the boot with the hoof plate facing towards the front of the boot.
- Insert the Gaiter so that the hoof plate is flat against the bottom of the boot.

- Fold the Gaiter sleeve around the back of the boot.
- Apply the Boa Horse Boot to the hoof while holding the Gaiter flap folded over the back of the boot. With the Boa Gaiter the horse will be standing on top of the hoof plate.

- After the boot is on securely, but before fastening and tightening the Boa Dial, fasten the Gaiter hook and loop strap snugly around the pastern. Make sure that all parts of the gaiter are snug against the horse's leg. There should be no gaps or loose areas.
- A properly applied Boa Horse Boot with Gaiter.

Important: Although the Boa Gaiter will protect the soft tissue areas from chafing in sandy or muddy conditions, it is important to empty sand or mud during extended use. Empty the Boa Horse Boots as you would empty your own running shoes after deep mud or sand. - If needed, you can attach the Front Dial Pad (see diagrams below) for added protection from the pressure of the Boa Dial.
