Old Mac G2 Hoof Boots

    THE OLD MAC G2Old Mac's

Every Old Mac’s horse boot has a unique hi-tech performance outsole, incorporating the unique Hoof Suspension™ System. The specially developed Thermo Plastic Urethane (TPU) compound will minimize and help speed up recovery from concussion-related injuries.

Aimed at improving your horse’s soundness, well-being and performance, these boots will extend your horse’s working life!

When used during transport, Old Mac’s protect your horse from bulb and tendon damage, as well as hoof wall and sole bruising. Their exceptional traction will help prevent slipping on the loading ramp and offer increased confidence inside the trailer. Please note that the use of boots over shoes voids the wear warranty.

Breeding:  You can protect both the stallion and mare against kicking injuries during breeding by fitting Old Mac’s Multi-purpose Horse Boots. The unique outsole design will also significantly improve traction during serving. Our equine friends often suffer skeletal structure injuries due to losing their footing on greasy or hard surfaces. This sudden hyper-extension of the limbs can cause serious spinal, joint and/or ligament damage. Riders, too, are often injured as a result of a horse losing its footing and falling on its rider. The traction offered in Old Mac’s unique hi-tech performance outsole helps ensure a safe ride for you and your horse.

Note:  The chart above is for the G2 Style which is available through out online shop.

1. Measure the width of the hoof across the bottom of the widest point (see dia).
2. Measure the length of the hof from the toe to the buttress line of the heel. The buttress line is the farthest weight bearing point of the heel where the hoof wall ends. Do not include the heel bulbs in the measurement.
 3. Compare your measurement with the appropriate size chart.
 4. Ideally the length and width measurement will fit into the same size. If the length of width measurements indicate different sizes, select the larger size. If the width and length measurements are different by more than one size, these boots are not recommended. Be sure to check your measurements against an alternative boot in the Easycare line - each style has different requirements.

Some horses have hoof deformation from shoes that  has distorted their hoof form so they are now wider hooves than longer. That shape will not fall into the sizing for the G2's and will need the "Original" Old Mac boots. These can be specially ordered for you. 1. Fully open up the Cordura® cover ensuring that no Velcro® areas are touching and that the cover is pulled well forward.

  2. Facing the rear of your horse, pick up the hoof and slip it, TOE FIRST into the boot. Place the sole of the hoof firmly down into the sole of the Old Mac’s G2 – pulling the heel of the boot over the bulb. Place your horses hoof on the ground.

  3. Wrap the main webbing strap around the pastern bone - from the back of the hoof around the front and then to the back again. Feed the strap through the metal loop, pulling firmly to secure it then fasten the Velcro®. If after securing the main webbing strap you cannot comfortably slip a finger between the horse's pastern and the webbing strap you have secured it too tightly.

  4. Ensuring both side flaps are firmly pushed against the hoof wall, secure the cover by pushing both sides towards the rear in a downward direction. The collar of the boot should be moulded around the pastern bone. Secure the cover at the rear by pulling both ends firmly around the heel, overlapping the Velcro® evenly, and then fastening. Firmly buckle up outside strap.

  5. Old Mac's G2 are now securely in place. As a guide the middle of the four rivets on the front of the boot should be aligned through the centre of the hoof and the pastern bone.

    Old Mac's Fitting

… some ‘SOUND’ advice

  1. Old Mac’s G2 should be fitted as the boots are marked – ‘LEFT’ and ‘RIGHT’, with the securing buckle placed on the outside of each hoof.

  2. After you have placed your horse’s hoof into the boot you need to ensure that there is firm contact between the heel of the hoof and the sole of the boot. To avoid part of the rear of the hoof sitting up on the wall of the Old Mac’s G2 sole you may need to remove 1-2 mm of the hoof wall. This will allow the hoof to correctly slip into the boot, while also ensuring there is room for hoof growth.

  3. It is very important to ensure the entire 'horny hoof' sits within the Old Mac's G2 outsole. Only the bulbs of the hoof should make contact with the leather rear of the boot. If the heels of the hoof extend past the outsole and are standing on the rear of the boot you have selected a size too small.

  4. Ensure Old Mac’s G2's are put on straight. (Refer to picture in Step Five of fitting instructions).

  5. After securing the main webbing strap if you cannot comfortably slip a finger between the horse's pastern and the webbing strap you have secured it too tightly.

  6. After the cover has been secured ensure Velcro® ends are overlapped in the correct position

  7. Working your horse in incorrect sized Old Mac's G2's can lead to chafing. Correct size selection will ensure maximum performance.

  8. It is recommended you give your horse time to adjust to wearing Old Mac's G2's. The first time you fit your horse with Old Mac's just walk him out. Gradually increasing the duration and length of rides wearing Old Mac's G2's will ensure your equine friend has become accustomed to his new 'hoofwear'. Too much too soon can lead to chafing.

  9. If after fitting your Old Mac G2 boots you find the inside pastern strap has insufficient length to properly secure, then you have selected boots too small for your horse . This is the result of the hoof being too long for the boot which means the horse is standing on the soft rear of the boot instead of being completely on the TPU outsole and this will lead to premature wear to the outside soft leather rear of the boot as well as giving the indication the pastern strap has insufficient length to secure properly . The correct size boots should have a minimum of 80mm or 3 " of strap passed through the metal loop and secured over on itself. If you have less than 60mm or 2" of pastern strap Velcoed over on itself we recommend you try boots at least two sizes larger.
