How to measure for the Easyboot Glove:

Success of the Easyboot Glove and Easyboot Glue-On are determined by accurate measurements and a snug fit.

  1. After a fresh trim, measure the width of the hoof across the bottom at the widest point.
  2. Measure the length of the hoof from the toe to the buttress line of the heel. The buttress line is the farthest weight bearing point of the heel where the hoof wall ends. Do not include the heel bulbs in the measurement.
  3. Compare your measurements with the appropriate size chart. Ideally, the length and width measurements should fit into the same size on the chart.
  4. Because this boot needs to fit very snug, if you are a size apart we recommend that you order a fit kit.   If you find the Glove not suitable be sure to check the requirements and measurements against an alternative boot in the EasyCare line-another style may accommodate your horse's hoof shape better.

We have found that measurements are more accurate and easier to take using the metric system.

Do you need to consider a power strap as well?

Easyboot Glove Power Strap (in multiple colours)  is a handy accessory for those who like to "move along" and for competitive riders who use gaits that require the horse to really power off their hind hooves.  Some horses natually drive more from behind than others too and for them the power strap can add to boot security.  The power strap covers the V at the toe and stabilizes the boot here.

Easyboot Glove Power Strap, sold as single strap, and you can trim it easily to fit Glove boot size.

Comes in several colors for easier, quicker boot identification if you have several horses and they allow you to personalise your very own boots.

They must be trimmed to fit boot size. Hardware and instructions included with strap.

How to assess perfect glove fit:

EasyCare Fit Kit 017

Each shell has only a 4mm width difference between the next size.

 EasyCare Fit Kit 018

This is 4mm!  This tiny difference helps ensure a tight fit.

EasyCare Fit Kit 002

The perfect fit can be pushed onto the hoof with a bit of effort and you will feel the shell flex as it goes over the hoof.

The boot is snug around the hoof wall and no gaps are visible. All portions of the shell are below the hairline.

 EasyCare Fit Kit 007

The V shape in the front should expand like the one in the picture at left.

The boot should be snug and difficult to pull off.  A good fit should give the impression that it will stay on without the gaiter or glue....it should fit like a glove.

EasyCare Fit Kit 004The hairline at the heel should be no more than half an inch above the shell.  If the hairline is over or close to the hairline trim the shell down

  EasyCare Fit Kit 006

When in place it should be difficult to fit a hoof pick between the shell and the hoof.

 HOW TO ASSESS POOR FIT:

1.   The V in the front of the shell does not expand.  Viewing the photo below the V on the left boot has failed to expand (poor fit).  The V on the right has expanded and is a good fit.

If you have a club footed horse you will find they have one low more splayed out hoof shape with a lower heel and one steeper smaller hoof with a high heel.  You will need to buy two very different size Gloves/shells  and be careful when assessing the fit.

EasyCare Fit Kit 013

 2.   Gaps big or small can be seen between the upper shell and the hoof.

3.  A long heel (a heel that measures more than 1/2 an inch above the shell at the rear hairline). A horse with long heels may have success with the Easyboot Glue-On shell but will not have success with the Easyboot Glove.

What can you do to turn a bad fit into a good fit?

1.  Have your horse trimmed by a hoof care professional. Make sure they are conscious about barefoot trimming methods, toe length and heel length.  Many horses have hoof deformation from shoes that has distorted their hoof shape.

2.  Chances are good that after trimming you will have success with the Fit Kit.

3.  Some feet are not the right shape and don't have the correct angles for the Easyboot Glove and Easyboot Glue-On. Don't worry an Easyboot Epic, Easyboot Edge, Old Mac G2 may be a better option for your horse.

 Easyboot Glove Application:

1.   Pick up the horse's leg and support the cannon bone between your knees so that you can use two hands when applying the boot.

2.   Fold the gaiter back to get it out of the way.

3.   Using technique rather than strength, place the boot over the horse's toe and, using a slight back and forth twisting motion, slide the boot on the rest of the way. You can also put the foot down on the ground and allow the horse to put weight into it. Don't use the gaiter to pull the boot on.

4.   Check for proper fit. Make sure all portions of the boot (with the exception of the gaiter) are below the hairline. The boot should be very snug and not twist on the hoof. Do not use the boot if it is loose or if the main part of the boot touches the coronary band.

5.   Fastern the Easyboot Glove Gaiter

a)   Pull the top of the gaiter tight around the pastern.

b)   Fasten the hook and loop straps

.

6.   The tighter the fit, the better the boot will perform. Overlap the hook and loop straps as much as needed to insure a tight fit and avoid rubbing issues. (See illustration ) Easyboot Fitting

This overlapping does not compromise the integrity of the gaiter. When properly tightened, it should be difficult to fit a finger between the pastern and the top of the gaiter.

Due to their great deal of elasticity, gaiter straps cannot be over tightened.

   Removing the Easyboot Glove.

  1. Unfasten the gaiter straps.
  2. Slip the boot off the hoof.

Note:   We do not recommend that a boot be left on for more than ten (10) days in a dry environment, or five (5) days in a wet, humid environment.

For sizing use the same chart as The Glove (above).

The Easybot Glue-On shell hae been developed as a high performance boot  for horses in  long distance events.

The light weight shell has thin walls tha allow the boot to stretch and form to the hoof.  The end esult is a seamless on-to-one fit that resembles a second skin over the hoof.  The Easyboot Gue-Ons is the closet hoof boot option to the barefoot horse - light weight, no hardware and a seamless fit.

In order for it to work properly you must follow the glueing instructions exactly and you MUST have a clean & dry hoof wall for the glue to attach to.

It  suits those who do multi day rides such as marathon endurance rides, multi day trail rides or any event where you want to eliminate the use of the gaiter or make the pastern and heel areas clearly visible to meet regulations.

These boots are meant to be used once or twice and then thrown away.  To reuse them the glue must be cleaned off the inside of the boot.

We do not recommend that they be left on more than ten (10) days in a dry environment or five (5) days in a wet/humid environment.

How to apply the Easycare Glue-On Boots:

  1. The most important part of the Easyboot Glue-On application is hoof preparation. Additional time spent on the preparation stage will be rewarded.

  2. Start with a dry hoof. If the hoof is wet do not start the process until the horse's feet dry. Ideally the horse should be in a dry environment for 24 hours prior to applying Easyboot Glue-On hoof boots.

  3. Tie the horse in a clean, dry area. A cement slab, trailer mat or asphalt area is preferred.

  4. Test the fit. Fit the Easyboot Glue-On to the hoof first. The boots should be snug. If you do not have a tight, snug fit, don't move forward with the glue procedure. Remember, the hoof can be groomed slightly to match the boot shape.
  5. Clean the hoof thoroughly.
    • Use a hoof pick to remove all debris from the bottom of the hoof. Clean out pockets of debris in the bar areas. Trim bars to proper length. (Glue may apply pressure points to bars that are not trimmed and cleaned properly) If you are not comfortable with this procedure, please call your hoof care professional.
    • Trim any loose sole with a hoof knife.
    • Use a wire or stiff bristle brush to thoroughly clean the sole.
    • Clean hoof wall thoroughly.
    • Use a rasp to clean the hoof wall. Clean all portions of the hoof wall at and below where the glue-on shell will rest.
    • If the hoof has been treated with a hoof dressing, wipe down the entire hoof with denatured alcohol. Do not use Acetone! If the hoof has not been treated with a dressing or oiling substance do not use denatured alcohol.
  6. Prepare to glue.
    • Make sure all feet have remained on the clean and dry surface.
    • Lay out your glue supplies. (See accessories).
      • Dispensing gun with Vettec Adhere cartridge inserted.
      • 1 - 3 mixing tips per hoof.
      • Nitrile Tough EasyCare gloves.
  7. Cut open the tube of Vettec Adhere at line and apply a mixing tip. Purge a small amount of material from cartridge. Apply a mixing tip and position Glue-On shell and loaded dispensing gun near the hoof.
  8. Dry the hoof with a heat gun or hair dryer. Do not skip this step! If possible, keep the hoof in the air after drying. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO OVERHEAT THE HOOF USING ANY HEATING APPLIANCE
    • Apply a thin layer to the entire inner vertical wall of the Easyboot Glue-On shell. Work fast, as you only have 30-45 seconds for glue application and fitting. If the mixing tip gums up, discard it and use another.
    • Apply a thick bead to the weight bearing (where the outer rim of the horses foot will contact the boot) area of the boot.
    • a) Pick up the horses foot and apply the boot. b) Twist the boot back and forth slightly past center 2-3 times. This helps set the glue and fill in all areas. c) Center the boot and set the horse's foot on the ground. d) Pick up the opposite foot so the booted foot is weight bearing. Hold for 90 seconds to insure a good bond. Set-up time is 8-9 minutes.

    Easyboot Glue-On removal

    1. The glue bond between the Easyboot Glue-On shell and hoof starts to break down after seven days. You may, however, remove the boot any time before then.
    2. Take a large, flat screw driver and slowly break the bond between the Easyboot Glue-On shell and hoof. Start at one point and work all the way around each boot.
    3. Pick up the hoof and gently pry off the boot.
    4. These boots are meant to be used 1-2 times. If you will be reusing the boot, this is the best time to remove any remaining glue from the shell. Use a wire grinding wheel to remove all glue residue.
    5. Do not reapply the Easyboot Glue-On shell until all glue is removed from the bottom of the boot. Glue on the vertical shell will not affect re-application. Glue remaining in the bottom of the shell could cause bruising to the hoof.
